Baltimore Mayor Joins Fight Against Trump’s Law Enforcement Power Grab

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott is joining democracy advocates and legal experts today to warn about what they call President Donald Trump’s dangerous weaponization of law enforcement, starting with his federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and deployment of the National Guard in the nation’s capital.

The Not Above the Law Coalition says this is part of a broader pattern, pointing to Trump sending troops against peaceful protesters in Los Angeles and reports that the FBI was used to track down Texas Democrats who fled the state to stop GOP-led redistricting.

Scott and others plan to speak at a press conference, calling Trump’s moves an authoritarian escalation that threatens every American city and strips away basic rights and freedoms.

The coalition, made up of more than 150 organizations, says the stakes are clear: unchecked power in Washington today could mean no city will be safe tomorrow.
