Bayou Ballot Blowback: Louisiana Voters Reject MAGA Makeover

voters delivered a clean sweep rejection of four constitutional amendments backed by MAGA-aligned Gov. Jeff Landry. With all four measures earning less than 40% of the vote, residents across the bayou made it clear they’re not buying what Landry is selling.

Proposals included letting lawmakers create vague new specialty courts and overhauling state and rules. They also sought to expand the list of crimes for which teenagers could be tried as adults and give the legislature more control over judicial elections.

Even celebrity endorsements didn’t help. Rapper and businessman endorsed Amendment 2, claiming it would boost teacher pay and drive economic growth. But critics say the changes would strip protections for public funding.

One lawmaker summed it up: “Positive change doesn’t come by confusing people.”

For now, Louisiana voters are reminding us that, even in red states, informed communities still have the power to push back.
