Biden Passes the Torch to VP Harris in an Address to the Nation

“My fellow Americans, it has been the privilege of my life to serve this nation for over 50 years. Nowhere else on earth could a kid with a stutter from modest beginnings in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Claymont, Delaware, one day sit behind the resolute desk in the Oval Office as president of the United States.”

That was President Joe Biden in his address to the nation, discussing his decision not to run for president in 2024, but to stand behind Vice President Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee.

“She’s experienced. She’s tough. She’s capable. She’s been an incredible partner to me and a leader for our country. Now the choice is up to you, the American people.”

Biden told those watching that the Republic is now in their hands.

“When Ben Franklin was asked, as he emerged from the convention going on, whether the founders had given America a monarchy or republic, Franklin’s response was ‘A Republic, if you can keep it.’”
