Black Student Found Hanging on Mississippi College Campus

The death of 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed — a Black student found hanging from a tree on Delta State University’s campus — has ignited outrage and skepticism.

Police say they have found no evidence of foul play, but the NAACP rejected that, posting a photo that read, “A man was lynched yesterday.”

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is representing Reed’s family, promising an independent investigation after officials quickly ruled out foul play. The Bolivar County coroner said Reed showed no signs of assault, no broken bones and no lacerations, but noted the investigation is ongoing.

Reed’s death comes as another man, 33-year-old Cory Zukatis, was found hanging near Vicksburg, Mississippi, raising more questions and community unease.
