“Blacksonian” Under Siege as Trump Orders Museum Review

President Donald Trump is again targeting the National Museum of African American History and Culture, calling it and other Smithsonian museums “out of control” for focusing on “how bad slavery was” and criticizing what he calls their “woke” bias.

He ordered his attorneys to launch a sweeping review of several museums, including the African American museum — similar to actions he has taken against universities — and warned of possible federal funding cuts if exhibits do not move away from what he calls divisive narratives.

This follows his March executive order, “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” which set the stage for this kind of ideological overhaul that he calls “anti-American ideology.”

The backlash has been swift. Historians, artists and free speech advocates say it is a warning that political interference threatens independence and could usher in widespread censorship. They say they are pushing back against efforts to sanitize history and warning that such moves could erode public trust.
