CBC Letter Accuses Trump Administration of Targeting Black Immigrants

(AURN News) — The Congressional Black Caucus says the Trump administration is targeting Black immigrants through sweeping visa restrictions and enforcement policies.

In a letter sent Thursday, CBC members pointed to a January State Department decision that suspends immigrant visas for nationals of 75 countries — a move the caucus says disproportionately impacts majority-Black countries.

According to the caucus, African countries account for 39 on that list — nearly 70% of the continent — with roughly 90% of African immigrant visa applicants affected. Eleven of the 13 sovereign Caribbean nations — about 85% — are also included.

Lawmakers argue the administration’s actions go beyond immigration policy, warning the federal system is being used to surveil and criminalize Black communities and echoing what they describe as a long anti-Black history in immigration enforcement.

The caucus is also demanding an immediate halt to PARRIS — the Post Admission Refugee Reverification and Integrity Strengthening initiative.
