According to People, Ronald LaPread, a founding member and bassist of the Commodores, has died at 75.
His daughter Soraya shared the news on Instagram, writing that she and her father were the “best daddy daughter duo” and asking for prayers. LaPread, had lived in New Zealand for years.
The cause of death has not been released.
The Commodores honored him as a “phenomenal musician,” songwriter, brother, and friend whose contributions helped define the group’s sound.
Lionel Richie also paid tribute, writing, “Pread, you will be missed my dear brother. What a ride!”
LaPread was with the Commodores from 1970 to 1986, contributing to classics like “Easy,” “Brick House,” “Three Times a Lady,” “Still,” and “Nightshift,” which won a Grammy in 1986.
