Concerns over ICE raids lead to Fourth of July cancelations

Some of Los Angeles County’s Fourth of July celebrations, including those in Hispanic neighborhoods, have been canceled or postponed because of concerns over possible U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.

The Los Angeles County of Department of Parks and Recreation canceled the East Los Angeles Rockin’ 4th of July celebration as well as its Summer Movies & Concerts series.

Organizers of the Summer Block Party at Gloria Molina Grand Park said on Instagram that the downtown Los Angeles event was postponed “out of an abundance of caution.”

“We are committed to bringing this beloved celebration back later this summer and will provide an unforgettable experience that uplifts L.A.’s resilience,” organizers said. They noted public safety is their first priority.

Postponements were previously announced for Boyle Heights, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights and Northeast Los Angeles, according to boyleheightsbeat.com, a website covering the LA neighborhoods.

Additionally, the city of Cudahy, which is mainly Hispanic, announced on X that it was postponing the early Independence Day celebration that was scheduled for Thursday. The city cited safety concerns, but said parks would remain open.
