Cori Bush Seeks Comeback in Missouri Primary Rematch

(AURN News) — Missouri voters are deciding Tuesday whether to send former Rep. Cori Bush back to Washington.

Bush made history in 2020 as the first Black woman elected to Congress from Missouri.

She later lost her seat to Rep. Wesley Bell in a 2024 primary that became one of the most expensive House races in U.S. history, fueled by millions in outside spending from United Democracy Project, an AIPAC-affiliated super PAC.

Now they are facing off again. This time, Bush is framing it as unfinished business.

Standing outside St. Louis’ Old Courthouse, where Dred and Harriet Scott’s freedom lawsuit first went to trial, Bush told supporters, “Send back that descendant. Send her back to the place that enslaved people built.”

Bell is making the case that voters should keep him in office. He is highlighting his response to last year’s deadly St. Louis tornado and Bush’s voting record in Congress as reasons voters should keep him in office.

Polling heading into Tuesday showed the race within a few points. But no matter who wins Tuesday, Democrats are expected to easily hold the seat in November.
