Credit Card Fees and Complaints Continue to Rise

(AURN News) — Interest rates for new credit card offers are now down, according to a new report from WalletHub.

The rate is now 22.11% as of the first quarter of 2026, down from 22.59% in the first quarter of 2025.

When it comes to interest rates for those with excellent credit, rates are down 2.89% over the past 12 months.

But there are some important things to note. The average credit card annual fee is now $28.25, up 18.95% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the first quarter of 2025.

There has also been an increase in credit card complaints during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.

Complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau increased 1.86%, while complaints related to billing rose from 13.34% last year to 23.28%.
