WASHINGTON (AURN News) — President Donald Trump delivered a record-breaking 107-minute State of the Union address, declaring a “golden age.”
Facing a divided chamber, Trump claimed inflation is plummeting and that he inherited the worst inflation in history. The facts: federal economic data shows inflation was already declining when he took office. While inflation has cooled to 2.4%, it is not consistent with the characterization of “plummeting.”
Turning to health care, Trump said his administration has slashed prescription drug prices by as much as 600%. Health policy experts say reductions greater than 100% would be mathematically impossible, as that would imply companies are paying consumers to take medications. While the administration’s TrumpRx.gov site offers discounts on certain fertility and weight loss drugs, many commonly prescribed medications have not seen comparable price reductions.
Trump claimed murder rates saw the largest decline in history under his watch. While homicides may reach a 125-year low this year, federal crime data show the downward trend began in 2022.
At 42% favorability, the president’s “golden age” pitch is a hard sell.
