Farewells Begin for Civil Rights Icon Jesse Jackson

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The nation begins its final farewell today to a titan of the civil rights movement, the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr., who marched with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., transformed American politics and served as a global diplomat.

He is being honored in his home city of Chicago. The public is invited to pay their respects today and tomorrow.

Jackson’s legacy spans more than six decades, from the front lines of the Selma marches to his historic Rainbow Coalition and presidential runs in the 1980s. He famously urged a generation of Americans to “Keep hope alive,” a mantra that defined his work for social and economic justice.

The commemorations will culminate in a public homegoing service on Friday, March 6, at the House of Hope in Chicago. The family is asking guests to register in advance, and service details are available at jessejacksonlegacy.com.
