WASHINGTON (AURN News) — A federal judge in Washington has handed the Trump administration a temporary win in its push to reshape how Americans cast their ballots. The ruling allows the White House to move forward, at least for now, with plans to create a centralized list of eligible voters and restrict where mail ballots can be sent.
The judge’s reasoning was straightforward. Since the policy has not been put into action, there is nothing concrete enough to stop. But civil rights organizations say they will return to court the moment officials begin putting these plans into motion.
The controversy traces back to President Donald Trump’s longstanding claims that voting by mail invites fraud, assertions he has made repeatedly since losing the 2020 election. Independent reviews and state-level investigations, including those conducted under Republican leadership, have consistently found no evidence of widespread voter fraud linked to mail voting.
Election administrators across the country have warned that a federally controlled voter list could introduce new errors and confusion.
