GOP Senator Threatens to Block DHS Nominations Over Leadership Concerns

(AURN News) — Sen. Tom Tillis, R-N.C., sharply criticized Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem during a heated Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, accusing her of chasing deportation quotas pushed by the White House, instead of focusing on precision and accountability.

“And what we’ve seen is a disaster under your leadership, Ms. Noem, is innocent people getting detained that turn out are American citizens. I could talk about the culture that’s been created here with Stephen Miller aiding and abetting.”

The hearing comes as DHS remains partially shut down under bipartisan scrutiny over the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis, both labeled “domestic terrorists” by Noem.

Tillis also accused Noem of mismanaging FEMA disaster funds in North Carolina and suggested her actions could violate the Homeland Security Act.

“As of today, I’ll be informing leadership that I’m putting a hold on any en bloc nominations until I get a response.”
