Senate Democrats are gearing up for battle—this time, to protect your Social Security check. Today, they launched what they’re calling a “war room” to push back against cuts being made by the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.
The move comes as the Trump administration plans to axe certain identity verification phone services at the Social Security Administration next month. Critics warn this will overload an already struggling system and hurt vulnerable seniors.
The war room will do more than just sound the alarm. Led by Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden, Mark Kelly and Raphael Warnock, it’s designed to amplify messaging, oversee DOGE’s actions, hold field visits, and put pressure on Republicans—especially in swing districts—through town halls and public engagement.
The bigger play: DOGE is slashing agencies left and right, but Democrats say Social Security is where they’re making their stand.
