High Prices, Low Support Ahead of State of the Union

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — Just hours before President Donald Trump takes the podium for the State of the Union, new data suggest Americans are not supportive of his tariff policies.

A coalition called We Pay the Tariffs released a report highlighting 26 national and battleground state polls. According to an ABC News-Ipsos poll cited in the report, 64% of Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling tariffs.

A YouGov poll shows 60% approve of the Supreme Court striking down most of the tariffs, while a Fox News poll found just 37% of voters support them. Gallup reports 89% of adults believe tariffs raise prices. More than 65% told Morning Consult that tariffs have made everyday essentials — including food, housing and transportation — less affordable.

The administration is now leaning on Section 122 authority after the Supreme Court ruled prior tariff actions unlawful under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. With midterms approaching, will lawmakers stand by a policy voters overwhelmingly linked to higher costs?
