History in Reverse: Former FBI Director Comey Indicted

(AURN News) — For the first time in U.S. history, a former FBI director has been indicted. James Comey, long at odds with President Donald Trump, now faces federal charges for allegedly lying to Congress and obstructing a proceeding.

A grand jury said his 2020 Senate testimony about FBI leaks did not add up. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

Trump wasted no time in a Truth Social post, declaring “JUSTICE IN AMERICA!” and calling Comey “one of the worst human beings this country has ever been exposed to.” But the twist is that the case is being driven not by career prosecutors, but by interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, who previously served as Trump’s personal lawyer — raising questions about politics bleeding into justice.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement, “No one is above the law.” Comey says he is innocent and welcomes a trial.

For context, the grand jury even rejected one of the charges — something that rarely happens.

The question is whether this is accountability — or a dangerous turn in which political enemies are put on trial.
