Hundreds Mourn Nolan Wells as Calls for Answers Continue

(AURN News) — Hundreds gathered today in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to say goodbye to 18-year-old Nolan Wells. The multisport athlete and college football player disappeared July 4 after a boat trip with several white friends to Horn Island and was found dead two days later.

His mother remembered him as a gentle, protective young man who made everyone around him feel at ease.

The Rev. Al Sharpton delivered the eulogy, calling for a full investigation, while family attorney Ben Crump renewed the family’s demand for answers about what happened on the island.

Director Spike Lee attended the funeral, and actor Tyler Perry covered the funeral costs.

Mourners wore black and blue, the colors of Wells’ Ocean Springs High School football team.

The Congressional Black Caucus has called for an independent probe, and the findings will ultimately go before a grand jury.

For now, the family and the community are left searching for what really happened to Nolan Wells.
