Illegal: Court Strikes Down Trump’s LA Troop Deployment

A federal judge ruled that President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy National Guard troops to Los Angeles during immigration protests was illegal.

Judge Charles Breyer said the move flatly violates federal law, crossing a line meant to keep the military out of domestic law enforcement.

California took Trump to court, arguing the Guard had no business backing up federal raids. The administration claimed the troops were only protecting officers, not enforcing laws. But the judge rejected that argument. His order takes effect Friday.

The bigger picture is that Trump is eyeing the same playbook for cities like Chicago, Baltimore and New York, while already flexing that power in Washington, D.C. The decision serves as a reminder that the judiciary stands as one of the final guards against unchecked presidential power.
