Illinois candidates win party nominations for U.S. House

Voters in all 17 of Illinois U.S. House districts went to the polls to vote in primary elections on Tuesday.

The candidates will head to a general election on Nov. 3 to determine who will represent Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives. Here are those candidates.

District 1

Republican candidates Christian Maxwell won the GOP nomination for Illinois’ 1st Congressional district. She is a business consultant from Belleville. Maxwell will face off against incumbent Democrat Jonathan Jackson.

District 2

Democrat candidate Donna Miller pulled off an upset against Jesse Jackson Jr., a well known political figure who has previously represented Illinois’ 2nd Congressional district. Miller will face off against Republican Michael Noack.

District 3

Incumbent Democrat Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., and Republican Angel Oakley will face off against one another in November, after running uncontested races.

District 4

Similarly, Democrat Patty Garcia and Republican Lupe Castillo will face off against one another after successfully surpassing uncontested primary races.

District 5

After a primary challenge from several candidates, incumbent Democrat Mike Quigly will defend his seat in Illinois 5th Congressional district. Business owner Tom Hanson was nominated as the Republican candidate for Illinois’ 5th district.

District 6

Incumbent Democrat Sean Casten will face off against Republican Niki Conforti for Illinois’ 6th Congressional district.

District 7

In a crowded and tightly contested Democratic primary, La Shawn Ford edged out Melissa Conyears-Ervin to secure the Democratic nomination for District 7. Republican Chad Koppie will face off against Ford in November.

District 8

Democratic nominee Melissa Bean also edged out other notable contenders to secure her party’s nomination. Bean will face Jennifer Davis, the Republican nominee for District 8.

District 9

A closely watched raced was neck and neck for most of the night in District 9, but Eveston Mayor Daniel Biss managed to beat out former journalist Kat Abughazaleh for the Democratic nomination. Biss will face off against Republican John Elleson.

District 10

Incumbent Democrat Rep. Brad Schneider handily defeated Morgan Coghill for the party’s nomination. He will face off against uncontested Republican Carl Lambrecht.

District 11

Running unopposed, Democrat Bill Foster will face off against a GOP candidate whose race has yet to be called.

District 12

Republican incumbent Mike Bost will go toe to toe with Democrat Julie Fortier in District 12, both candidates ran unopposed.

District 13

Incumbent Democrat Rep. Nikki Budzinski secured her party’s nomination again, defeating Dylan Blaha. She will face off against Republican Jeff Wilson.

District 14

Business owner James Marter won the Republican nomination for the 14th District and will face off against incumbent Democrat Lauren Underwood, who ran uncontested.

District 15

Incumbent Republican candidate Mary Miller will face off against a to-be-determined Democratic candidate in Illinois 15th congressional district.

District 16

Republican incumbent Darin LaHood will face off against Democratic nominee Paul Nolley in November. Both candidates ran unopposed.

District 17

Incumbent Democratic candidate Eric Sorenson will face off against small business owner Dillan Vancil in November’s general election to represent District 17.
