Israel-Hamas Truce Holds; U.S. Aids in Hostage Release and Humanitarian Efforts, Says NSC Spokesman Kirby

(AURN News) – The pause in fighting between Israel and Hamas persists for a sixth consecutive day as diplomatic efforts intensify to secure the release of additional hostages being held by Hamas. On Tuesday, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby addressed the press aboard Air Force One, providing updates on the situation and detailing humanitarian aid efforts.

Kirby confirmed the arrival of the first of three United States military flights in Egypt on Tuesday, carrying essential supplies, including food and medicine. The aid is now on the ground, aiming to alleviate the humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict.

“We’re in the first day of this two-day extension of the deal. Another 12 individuals got out today: 10 Israelis, 2 from — from Thailand. No Americans, unfortunately, got out today. But we’re hopeful,” Kirby stated.

The Biden administration emphasizes its commitment to the safe release of all hostages while expressing continued support for Israel amidst the ongoing conflict. Despite the challenges in negotiations, the administration says they remain focused on facilitating the release of more American hostages.

“There’s no indication at all that Hamas is trying to use leverage or something to keep Americans from getting out,” Kirby affirmed. “We know Hamas can get to all the hostages if it wants to, and it has the ability to do that. We’ll keep pressing to get these Americans out as much as we can.”

As of now, the duration of the truce between Israel and Hamas remains uncertain, and there is no official announcement regarding the possibility of further extensions.
