Journalist Georgia Fort Pleads Not Guilty to Federal Charges

(AURN News) — Independent journalist Georgia Fort entered a plea of not guilty in federal court to felony charges linked to a January protest inside St. Paul Church.

“The attack on the press did not start with my arrest. It is the government trying to muzzle me, to make me unable to report on one of the most historic cases, not just in our state, but in our country,” Fort said outside federal court.

Federal prosecutors allege Fort was part of a conspiracy to disrupt religious services under the FACE Act. Fort maintains she was on the scene strictly to report on the demonstration against the pastor, who is also an ICE director.

Her legal team signaled it is ready to challenge the prosecution’s version of events.

“Serious concerns about statements that the government has been making, and we think it’s important to shine the light of day on what happened behind closed doors in the grand jury,” her legal team said.
