Judge Blocks Trump’s Mass Layoffs of Federal Workers — For Now

For now, thousands of federal workers can breathe a little easier.

A federal judge has extended a freeze on President ‘s sweeping mass layoffs and agency reorganization, calling it a likely case of constitutional overreach.

Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled that Trump likely must go through before eliminating 22 federal agencies.

That means workers at agencies like the Social Security Administration and the are protected — at least temporarily.

This all stems from 14210 — Trump’s aggressive plan to eliminate waste and bloat — which has already resulted in the firing of 24,000 federal probationary employees.

But in two separate court cases, nearly 16,000 of those firings were ruled illegal.

The ruling is a win for the American Federation of Government Employees, joined by nonprofits and local governments, who say Trump’s move is a direct attack on the civil service that keeps the country running.
