(AURN News) — A California civil jury found Bill Cosby liable for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in 1972, awarding her nearly $60 million in damages, according to The Associated Press.
After a two-week trial in Santa Monica, jurors sided with Donna Motsinger, awarding damages for decades of emotional distress along with a large punitive award meant to hold Cosby accountable.
Motsinger said the verdict represents finally being heard after more than 50 years of carrying the trauma.
Cosby, now 88, has denied the allegations, and his legal team says it plans to appeal.
The decision comes years after his 2018 criminal conviction was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Cosby has faced accusations from dozens of women and settled or lost other cases, and this marks one of the largest financial judgments against him to date.
