Letitia James Indicted on Federal Fraud Charges, Calls Case Political Retaliation

(AURN News) — New York Attorney General Letitia James — who sued President Donald Trump during his time out of office and won a civil fraud case against his business empire — has now been indicted by the Department of Justice. A federal grand jury in Virginia charged James with bank fraud and making false statements related to a 2020 home purchase.

The indictment comes after Trump publicly called for retribution against what he labeled his political enemies. Sources say he personally pressured the Department of Justice to act, replacing one U.S. attorney who reportedly refused to pursue the case with an ally willing to move it forward.

James has characterized the indictment as political revenge. In a statement, she said the charges are “a desperate weaponization of our justice system,” warning that what’s at stake isn’t just her reputation, but the rule of law itself.

She noted that multiple judges have upheld rulings in her civil case that found Trump, his company, and his sons liable for fraud.
