Maduro in New York Court as Trump Claims He ‘Owns Venezuela’

(AURN News) – Venezuela’s ousted President Nicolas Maduro is due in a Manhattan federal court at noon today, just days after U.S. forces seized him in Caracas and flew him to New York to face drug trafficking and corruption charges.

Prosecutors say Maduro ran a state-backed narco network that used Venezuelan government, military and security services to move cocaine toward the U.S.mWhile Trump is boasting that with Maduro gone, the U.S. now effectively owns Venezuela and is openly tying that to control over the country’s vast oil reserves, signaling that American energy companies should expect a central role in whatever government comes next.

Now on Capitol Hill, patience is thin as top Democrats say they were kept in the dark about the operation to oust Maduro and are demanding answers in a classified Gang of Eight briefing on how far President Donald Trump intends to go and who would run Venezuela next.
