The Biden-Harris administration just announced a significant step forward in student debt relief, approving an additional $5.8 billion for nearly 78,000 public service workers. The move is part of the ongoing improvements to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program for those who serve in our communities (more info on requirements).
With this latest announcement, the total loan forgiveness under the administration has reached $143.6 billion and benefited almost 4 million Americans. The relief includes beneficiaries of the limited PSLF waiver and other regulatory enhancements to the program, marking $62.5 billion in forgiveness for 871,000 borrowers since October 2021. In prior initiatives, that number has only reached 7,000 borrowers.
The administration will be reaching out to nearly 380,000 borrowers who are close to qualifying for PSLF, expressing gratitude for their service and encouraging their continued dedication to public service roles.
