Millions Brace for Dangerous Winter Storm Across U.S.

AURN News — More than 170 million, possibly more than 200 million, Americans are bracing for a dangerous winter storm stretching from New Mexico to Maine, bringing crippling ice to the South and potentially a foot or more of snow along the Interstate 95 corridor that includes DC, Philadelphia, New York and Boston.

According to the National Weather Service, the massive system is already knocking out flights, with more than 1,500 canceled, and threatening widespread power outages, especially across parts of Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and the Carolinas, where freezing rain could snap power lines and leave communities without heat for days.

Many governors, including those in Texas, Georgia and the Carolinas, have declared emergencies, opening warming centers and urging residents to stay off the roads.

But as Americans worry about keeping the lights on and the heat running, critics say the Trump administration has weakened disaster readiness.

For many, the storm could feel like a game of survival.
