Most Americans View ICE Shooting as Unjustified, Poll Finds

(AURN News) — According to a new Economist/YouGov poll, 69% of Americans say they’ve watched coverage of the Minneapolis shooting involving an ICE officer, and by a 20-point margin, more believe it was not justified.

For the first time ever, more Americans support abolishing ICE than oppose it, with 46% in favor and 43% opposed.

There is also deep concern about accountability. Fifty-six percent say ICE should not be allowed to wear masks that hide their identities during arrests, and despite the White House defending the shooter with so-called “absolute immunity,” public opinion disagrees.

Vice President J.D. Vance’s favorability also dropped to its lowest point, down to 36%.
At the same time, Donald Trump’s immigration approval rating remains in the negatives, at minus seven. The shooting has flipped what Americans think and feel about ICE.
