Oregon Sues Trump Over National Guard Deployment

(AURN News) — Oregon is suing President Donald Trump after he ordered 200 National Guard troops to Portland against the wishes of state leaders. Gov. Tina Kotek says Portland can handle public safety without what she calls federal interference.

The lawsuit, filed by Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, argues the president has no authority to federalize Oregon’s National Guard.

The deployment, set for 60 days, would place Guard members under U.S. Northern Command. The Pentagon says the troops are protecting ICE facilities and federal workers. Critics, from Kotek to Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, warned that the move is about control, not safety.

California filed a similar challenge in June after National Guard troops were sent to Los Angeles. Now Oregon is drawing its own line, arguing that federal forces will escalate tensions rather than ease them.
