(AURN News) — The Pentagon was back on Capitol Hill today, this time asking Congress for an additional $80 billion.
Defense officials are warning Congress that without a new wartime spending bill, the military could run out of money for operations as soon as this summer, on top of an already staggering price tag.
Since the U.S. entered the war alongside Israel against Iran, costs have surged past $20 billion. In March, the Pentagon floated a $200 billion supplemental war funding request.
Now, with a fragile ceasefire barely holding and exchanges of fire still occurring near the Strait of Hormuz, officials say the costs continue to mount.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told lawmakers the situation remains “fluid” and that plans to escalate or pull back are both on the table.
