Police Still Searching for Suspect in Deadly Brown University Shooting

(AURN News) – Two students are dead and nine others were wounded after a mass shooting inside an engineering building at Brown University. Police still do not have a suspect in custody.

Gunfire broke out Saturday inside Brown University’s Barus and Holley Engineering Building while students were taking an exam. All of the victims were Brown University students.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley says one student has been released from the hospital. One remains in critical but stable condition. Investigators say a person of interest who was detained by federal agents has been released as the investigation continues. Police are asking anyone with cellphone videos or security footage from in or around the building to come forward as they try to identify the shooter.

A CNN analysis shows there have been at least 75 school shootings in the U.S. so far this year. Forty-three were on college campuses and 32 on K-12 school grounds, leaving at least 31 people dead and more than 100 others injured.
