Poll: Biden still facing high disapproval numbers on economy

Almost 60% of voters are still upset about President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy, according to the results of a new poll.

The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll asked likely voters, “When it comes to President Joe Biden, do you approve or disapprove of how he’s handling the economy?”

The poll was conducted in conjunction with Noble Predictive Insights from July 8-11 and surveyed nearly 2,300 likely voters, including 1,006 Republicans, 1,117 Democrats, and 172 true (non-leaning) independents. It has a margin of error of 2.1%. The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll is one of only six national tracking polls in the United States.

Among 2,295 respondents, 56% disapprove of the way Biden is handling the economy. Almost 90% of Republicans and nearly 60% of true independents make up this number.

Of the 42% who approve of the economy, Democrats make up 76% and true independents 33%.

Only 2% of respondents have no opinion or are unsure.

The number of voters who “strongly disapprove” of Biden’s handling of the economy is more than double those who “strongly approve,” 44%-21%.

Women and men hold nearly the same opinions regarding general approval or disapproval of Biden’s handling of the issue. Women approve by 43% and disapprove by 56%, while men approve by 42% and disapprove by 55%.

The poll included 1,286 female and 1,009 male respondents.

Compared to the results of a March poll on the same topic, opinions have barely changed. Even though inflation is down, prices are still up nearly 20% since Biden took office, a likely reason why voters remain upset about the economy under Biden, according to Noble Predictive’s Chief of Research David Byler.

“I know that everyone’s talking about cooling inflation prices,” said Byler. “But inflation slowing down is not quite enough by itself, because if prices are still high, people still stay angry for a while.”
