Publicly Democrats Brush Off Calls for Biden To Drop Out of Presidential Race

Over the weekend, House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries dismissed the notion that Democrats want President Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential race after a lackluster debate last week.

“It was an underwhelming performance on Thursday during the debate, as President Biden and his campaign have acknowledged, it certainly was a setback, but of course, I believe a setback is nothing more than a setup for a comeback,” said Jeffries on MSNBC over the weekend.

The Biden family gathered at Camp David to discuss the president’s future, and they are said to believe he is the best person to beat Donald Trump.

Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., speaks with reporters, Sept. 28, 2023, in Washington. Senior Democratic figures rallied publicly around President Joe Biden on Sunday, June 30, 2024, amid private angst within the party about Thursday’s debate performance. Warnock said during NBC’s “Meet The Press,” there had been “more than a few Sundays, when I wish I had preached a better sermon, but after the sermon was over it was my job to embody the message, to show up for the people that I serve. And that’s what Joe Biden has been doing his entire life.” (AP Photo/Alex Brandon, File)

Congressman Steve Fetterman also weighed in on Fox News Sunday.

“There was that same kind of a freak out after my debate. And in fact, I might even say that I had a more difficult evening than the president did. And here I am right now having this conversation. And I really like to remind everybody watching that right now Biden is one and Trump is still zero. And he’s the only person that’s ever beaten Trump.”
