Senate Confirms Controversial Trump-Appointed Judge Emil Bove

The Senate has confirmed Emil Bove, a former lawyer for President Donald Trump, to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a narrow 50-49 vote, despite whistleblower allegations that he urged Justice Department attorneys to defy court orders and Congress.

A federal judge is expected to rule on whether Bove violated privacy laws and internal Justice Department policy when he pushed to access and weaponize sensitive immigration data, according to court documents.

Bove also came under fire for dismissing a public corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a move that led to the resignation of several federal prosecutors. Legal experts and more than 900 former Justice Department attorneys have raised concerns about Bove’s nomination, calling it a threat to judicial integrity.

Bove will now serve for life on a court that rules on key issues such as immigration, voting rights and public corruption — cases that disproportionately affect Black and Latino communities.
