State of the Union Rating Slips

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — President Donald Trump, even after this week’s State of the Union address, continues to express frustration over the Supreme Court’s recent decision regarding his tariffs.

An NPR/PBS News/Marist poll shows many Americans are dissatisfied with the state of the country. When asked about the status of the nation — not the president’s speech — 57% said the state of the union is “not very strong or not strong at all,” a 4-point increase compared with March 2025.

“Six in ten Americans, including 90% of Democrats and 68% of independents, say the nation is worse off than it was a year ago. Forty percent, including 82% of Republicans, think the country is better off than it was last year,” the poll found.

Despite the president’s increasingly combative responses to legal challenges involving his administration’s policies, more Americans say they are unhappy with the direction the country is heading.
