Supreme Court Weakens Voting Rights Act Protections

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — Today, in a six-three decision, the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority effectively gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the 60-year-old law that protected minority voters from discriminatory congressional maps.

Justin Kagan, joined by Justice Sotomayor and Jackson, called it the now-completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act.

A law she says was born of the literal blood of civil rights marchers.

Up to 15 House seats currently held by Black members of Congress could flip, analysts say Republicans could gain enough seats through redistricting to lock in House control for a generation.

Florida is already in a special legislative session, redrawing its maps, just like Texas, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio.

The NAACP says the court betrayed Black voters and betrayed America.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder called this one of the most destructive courts in American history.
