Texas GOP Advances Partisan Map Amid National Redistricting Battles

Republicans in the Texas House pushed through a controversial new congressional map this week after an intense fight with Democrats, according to The New York Times. The plan, which passed 88-52 along strict party lines, was crafted to give President Donald Trump the partisan advantage he demanded, potentially adding five more GOP seats in the U.S. House.

The measure now heads to the state senate, where swift approval is expected, before reaching Gov. Greg Abbott for his promised signature.

The Texas battle reflects a broader coast-to-coast struggle over redistricting, as Democrats in California, New York and Illinois pursue their own aggressive strategies.

With control of the narrowly divided U.S. House at stake in 2026, both parties view these maps as crucial political weapons.
