Tired of Tipping? Americans Say They’ve Had Enough

(AURN News) — Americans say they are tired of tipping, and a new survey shows it is beginning to change how much they give.

Talker Research surveyed 2,000 people and found that social pressure leads the average person to spend nearly $300 more a year in tips than they want — about $24 a month in unwanted extra tipping.

Last year, Americans reported spending $453 a year on “guilt tips.” That figure is down 38% in 2025.

The survey found that one in five respondents often tip more than they want because they feel pressured or guilty.

Thirty-seven percent said they have noticed default tipping options climbing higher than in the past.

On average, people reported guilt tipping 4.2 times a month this year, down from 6.3 times a month in 2024.
