(AURN News) – Well, who needs a design review when you’re the one designing the rules? First reported by The Washington Post, the White House abruptly fired every member of the Commission of Fine Arts. It’s an independent agency that signs off on how Washington looks and feels. The six members appointed under President Joe Biden received an email stating their service was ending immediately.
The Trump administration says it’s bringing in a new group more in line with its “America First” vision. This comes as bulldozers continue work on a $300 million ballroom project on White House grounds. The East Wing was recently torn down to make room for it. Trump has also floated plans for a towering arc near the Potomac River – a gold cap monument some have already dubbed the ‘Arc de Trump’.
Preservationists warn that both projects are moving forward without the usual public review. A recent Yahoo News/YouGov poll shows roughly two-thirds of Americans oppose the ballroom plan, calling it a waste of money and history. Trump insists it’s about legacy.
Hmm. Maybe it’s more about ego.
