WASHINGTON (AURN News) — Well, if you are renewing your passport this summer in D.C., you may wanna take a closer look at what’s staring back at you, because there’s going to be the President of the United States.
The State Department confirmed it will begin issuing limited-edition passports featuring a portrait of President Donald Trump on the inside cover, his second inaugural photo signature in gold, superimposed over the Declaration of Independence.
The passports will be the default option at the Washington Passport Agency, though Americans who want their traditional design can still request one online or at other locations.
Officials are framing this as a commemoration of America’s 250th birthday. Historians say it’s a break with a global precedent.
No sitting U.S. president has ever appeared inside a passport, and no foreign nation puts its current leader on there either, for those keeping count at home.
Yes, this marks roughly the 10th government item that Trump has put his name or face on since returning to office.
