WASHINGTON (AURN News) — President Donald Trump used a rare primetime address from the White House East Room to renew false claims about election security without providing evidence to support them.
Speaking for about 25 minutes, Trump claimed America’s voting systems are vulnerable to being rigged and stolen, citing newly declassified intelligence documents and allegations of Chinese interference in the 2020 election. However, the documents contain conflicting assessments and do not establish that Chinese interference changed the outcome of the election.
Trump also urged Congress to pass the Save America Act. He claimed more than 250,000 noncitizens are illegally registered to vote in four states but did not explain how his administration arrived at that figure or provide evidence supporting the claim.
The database behind the claim has a history of incorrectly flagging U.S. citizens as potential noncitizens. Election experts also note that many of the safeguards Trump questioned — including paper ballots, independent audits and thousands of locally administered election systems — are already in place.
