(AURN News) — President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has dropped to 37%, a new Gallup poll shows — the lowest of his second term and nearing his all-time low of 34% at the end of his first. His standing has declined sharply since taking office in January, especially among independent voters.
Gallup reports that Trump’s approval among independents has plunged to 29% — a drop of 17 points since January and matching their lowest level in either of his terms. Among Republicans, support remains strong at approximately 89%, while backing from Democrats lingers at around 2%.
Approval on key issues has similarly faltered. Gallup’s July poll pegs his approval on handling foreign affairs at 41%, down from 44% in February, while approval on immigration has slipped from 46% to 38%. Approval of his economic performance is at 37%, down from 42% in February, while approval of his handling of foreign trade has dropped from 42% to 36%.
According to Gallup, the 37% rating marks the lowest second-term approval of any president since Dwight D. Eisenhower. By comparison, other two-term presidents averaged second-term approval ratings in their second quarters as follows: Richard Nixon at 44%, George W. Bush at 47% and Barack Obama at 48%.
