U.S. Chamber of Commerce Sues Over Trump Administration’s $100K Immigration Fee

(AURN News) — The nation’s most powerful business lobby has taken aim at President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce filed suit this week after the administration imposed a staggering $100,000 fee on companies seeking to hire skilled foreign workers through H-1B visas.

Chamber officials call the move “unlawful” and claim it tramples on federal immigration law.

In the filing, the Chamber said the steep fee would place an especially heavy burden on small businesses, midsize firms, and startups that depend on the H-1B program to hire skilled workers from abroad.

“The president deserves credit for securing our nation’s border. With the border secure, we now have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to accomplish targeted legal immigration reforms, and we stand ready to work with Congress and the administration to make that happen,” said Neil Bradley, the Chamber’s executive vice president and chief policy officer.

“That includes working together on common-sense reforms to improve the visa process for skilled workers,” he said.

“The president has said he wants to educate, attract, and retain the world’s best and brightest in the U.S., and the Chamber shares that goal,” Bradley added.

The Chamber maintains that the H-1B program was designed to give American businesses access to talent from around the world.
