(AURN News) — The latest round of U.S.-Iran negotiations wrapped up overnight in the Swiss Alps with a long list of unresolved issues still looming.
Vice President JD Vance emerged from 18 hours of talks, calling the session a “good foundation” for a final deal and announcing that United Nations nuclear inspectors will return to Iran to verify compliance with last week’s memorandum of understanding.
But the road ahead is anything but smooth. Iran’s lead negotiators have left Switzerland and returned to Tehran while technical teams remain to work through some of the thorniest issues. Chief among them are Iran’s nuclear program, the long-term status of the Strait of Hormuz and the still-active conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Trump is scheduled to head to Capitol Hill on Wednesday to meet with Senate Republicans, some of whom have sharply criticized the memorandum of understanding. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, called it “a missed opportunity,” while Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., described it as “the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.”
