(AURN News) — A growing dispute between President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV is intensifying, with Vice President JD Vance weighing in on the escalating tensions.
“I think it’s very, very important for the Pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology. If you’re going to opine on matters of theology, you’ve got to be careful, you’ve got to make sure it’s anchored in the truth,” Vance said.
Vance made the remarks yesterday at a Turning Point USA event, appearing to warn the leader of the Catholic Church about matters of theology.
The feud between Trump and Pope Leo XIV is escalating. The dispute began Sunday when Trump took to Truth Social, criticizing the first American-born pope and calling him “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy.”
In a separate post, Trump added, “If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”
Sunday night, Trump posted an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus Christ healing the sick, which he deleted Monday morning.
Pope Leo, currently on a peace mission across four African nations, responded without flinching.
“I don’t think that the message of the gospel is meant to be abused in the way that some people are doing,” Pope Leo said.
