While both Republicans and Democrats have emphasized courting Gen Z influencers to back their campaigns, an Illinois advocate for senior citizens reminded a crowd at the Democratic National Convention of who is likely to remain the deciding demographic in November.
“Older adults will decide this election,” Philippe Largent, state director of AARP Illinois, told attendees of the Illinois Democratic Party DNC Breakfast on Aug. 21.
Largent cited data from the 2024 Illinois Primary Election, showing 67% of the total votes recorded by the Chicago Board of Elections were from voters older than 44.
“Ongoing AARP research shows older women voters can sway elections and shape the political landscape of the 2024 elections,” he said.
