WATCH: Senator Hawley pushes for parents’ right to sue social media platforms

During a U.S. Senate hearing on Tuesday, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) called for legislation allowing parents to sue social media companies for harm caused to children. Hawley criticized the broad legal protections these platforms currently enjoy, arguing that they leave parents powerless.

“No company in America has the liability shield that these companies have,” Hawley stated, emphasizing concerns about the potential dangers children face online. He warned that social media platforms can exploit minors without consequence.

Having three kids himself, Hawley expressed personal fears about his own children’s exposure to harmful content and urged immediate legislative changes.

Hawley urged lawmakers to take action, stating, “It is time to give parents the right to sue social media platforms.”
