WATCH: White House blasts ‘shameful’ Democratic response to Trump’s speech

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt touted the president’s joint address to Congress on Tuesday evening while blasting Democrats for their response to the president, calling it “shameful.”

“The American people and the entire world watched as President Trump powerfully laid out how he’s renewing the American dream in a record-breaking joint address to Congress, and Americans loved what they heard,” Leavitt said, citing surveys that showed high approval ratings of the president and his speech.

President Donald Trump spoke on some of the 400 executive actions he’s taken in the six weeks since his second inauguration. Starting with the economy, Leavitt highlighted some of those Wednesday.

“President Trump level set with the American people on the economy and exposed how badly Joe Biden screwed it up by causing the worst inflation crisis in four decades,” Leavitt said.

But Trump also communicated that “help is on the way,” according to Leavitt.

“As the president declared last night, he will make America affordable again,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt also noted some of Trump honored ‘everyday Americans’ during the address, like Marc Fogel, an American imprisoned in Russia and recently returned to America; Payton McNabb, a volleyball player who suffered a brain injury from the opposing team’s transgender athlete; and a young girl and a young woman who were killed by migrants. She also underscored actions Trump has taken to avenge the chaotic withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, including apprehending Mohammad Sharifullah, who has been blamed for a deadly attack on Afghans and Americans.

Leavitt then turned to the Democratic response to the president’s address.

“The behavior of Democrats last night was completely disgraceful and demonstrated how severely out of touch they are with the American public,” she said.

“It was the most shameful moment in the history of presidential addresses in that beautiful chamber,” Leavitt added.

Rep. Al Green, D-TX, was thrown out of the chamber for standing and continuing to shout at the president.

She went on to describe how Democrats “screamed at” the president, left the chamber and didn’t show support for things the president thought both parties could come together on.

“Democrats didn’t stand to keep men out of women’s sports. They couldn’t even clap for a girl who got her head smashed in by a man on a volleyball court,” Leavitt said, nor did they stand for many of the president’s other special guests.

Leavitt said their actions “disrespected the American people” and showed they are the “party of hate.”
