Will “Uncommitted” Michigan Voters Be Enough To Send Biden a Clear Message on the War in Gaza?

There’s an effort to get Democratic voters to withhold their vote from President Joe Biden in Tuesday’s primary in Michigan over his handling of the Israel-Hamas war. Governor Gretchen Whitmer believes people in her state will make a statement.

“I anticipate that we will see a sizable number of people vote uncommitted as we know our huge Arab, Palestinian, and Muslim communities are going to voice some of their opinions with regard to how we’re handling what’s happening over in Gaza and Israel,” Whitmer said.

The state’s substantial Arab-American population helped push Biden to a narrow victory over former President Donald Trump in 2020. Now dissatisfied with Biden’s support for Israel amid a mounting death toll among Palestinian civilians, some are urging voters to mark down uncommitted on the ballot.

The organizing group Listen to Michigan says they hope to send Biden a message.
